Tourism in Mexico grew 5.6 percent in the second quarter of 2017

Mexico, Dec. 15 (Notimex).- During the second quarter of 2017, the Tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 5.6 percent and the one related to Domestic Tourism Consumption increased 5.1 percent over the same period of 2016, with seasonally adjusted figures, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI, for its acronym in Spanish). Of the components of Tourism GDP, that of services rose 6.1 percent in the reference period and that of goods rose 3.4 percent compared to the second quarter of last year. With seasonally adjusted figures, the Tourism GDP Quarterly Indicator advanced 1.9 percent in real terms and 1.3% in Domestic Tourism Consumption compared to the previous quarter. Within tourism GDP, the tourism services component grew 2.5 percent in the second quarter of this year and the goods 0.6 percent, the agency said in a statement. Within the Quarterly Indicator of Tourism Consumption, domestic tourism was higher by 2.1 percent, while incoming consumption decreased by 1.3 percent. With original figures, the Tourist GDP also showed a growth of 5.6 percent in the period from April to June 2017, compared to the same period last year, while the Domestic Tourism Consumption did 5.2 percent. The result of Tourist GDP in original figures derived from a growth of 3.3 percent in goods and 6.1 percent in services. Within the Interior Tourism Consumption, domestic tourism grew 4.9 percent and the receptive one grew by 6.4 percent.
