Tourism sector to boost commercial sales in Mexico City during Easter

Mexico, Apr. 6 (Notimex).- The Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco, for its acronym in Spanish) of Mexico City announced that for this Easter is estimated a 3.0 percent increase in sales over the same period of 2016, mainly because of the economic spill that will leave the visitors to the capital of the country. In a statement, the agency said that this figure represents an income of about 13 thousand 414 million pesos, driven mainly by tourism-related activities. The most benefited businesses are hotels, restaurants, recreation and entertainment centers, currency exchange offices, travel agencies, car rental companies, among others, as well as self-service, departmental and specialized sports stores. It points out that although basic inputs needed to travel such as fuel and toll have raised prices, businessmen in the tourist sector expect to have higher hotel occupancy than last year due to the increased value of the US currency. "The average hotel occupancy will be between the week of April 10 and 16, between 70 and 75 percent of its capacity, which represents an increase of two to three percentage points to that captured in the same holiday period of 2016," it said.
