Ambassador: Mexican investments in Ecuador exceed 5 billion dollars

Merida, Mexico, Apr. 6 (Notimex).- Ecuadorian Ambassador to Mexico, Leonardo Arízaga Schmegel, reported that Mexican companies have invested about 5 billion dollars in the country in the last five years, demonstrating the strong commercial relationship that exists between both nations. Before giving a keynote address at the main auditorium of the Faculty of Anthropology under the Autonomous University of Yucatan, invited by the municipal authorities of this city, said that the sectors where Mexico has invested most are dairy, soda, plastics and industrial products. "The investment shows that there is great confidence in Mexico towards Ecuador, because five billion dollars in such a short period is significant for both countries," he said in an interview. The Ecuadorian ambassador stressed that for there to be an investment in a country there must be a good relationship between presidents, governors, mayors and councilors. He pointed out that the Latin American region is facing major challenges such as reducing poverty, insecurity, and corruption. "These are the three issues that remain in Latin America, and that all governments are focused on fighting." Arízaga Schmegel, stressed that Ecuador and Mexico are two brother countries and Merida is the spearhead for all America, "we also link culture, one of the best-known songs in my country is called Sombras (Shadows), and it was just someone from Merida who wrote this song". In his conference entitled "Ecuador: Achievements and Challenges in the 21st Century," the diplomat spoke about the political process that has taken place in his country in recent years, the citizen revolution they are experiencing and the historical transformation that has taken place and themes of conjuncture and the close relationship between these two American peoples. "We have many coincidences in the immigration field, we cooperate on issues that have to do with science, technology, higher education and there is an intense political and diplomatic activity," he said. He also commented that "it is a great pleasure to return to Merida, where for the first time I was 30 years ago as a student, and to see that the city is beautiful, has made great progress and remains a benchmark for Mexico." At the end of his conference, in which he also talked about educational infrastructure, community security, socioeconomic and cultural inequality, as well as the progress made during the last 10 years, he invited visitors to visit his country and the Galapagos Islands. After the questions and answers, he received an acknowledgment from the Culture Commission of the city of Merida, for his participation in the Week of Ecuador in Merida that precisely organizes the capital authority.
