New Mexican airport to improve connectivity and promote tourism

Mexico, Jun. 1 (Notimex).- The New International Airport of Mexico City (NAICM, for its acronym in Spanish) will strengthen the business environment, promote tourism and improve a better connectivity, plus it will be one of the three largest airports worldwide. This was stated by Yuriria Mascott Pérez, Transportation Deputy Minister, who said that this new terminal will surpass the capacity of the Brandenburg airport, in Germany, and Hamad, in Qatar. She explained in a statement that its construction will be a driving force for regional development, because it will generate 160 thousand jobs and when it starts operations will create 450 thousand more, in addition to another one thousand per one million additional passengers. It will contribute to the services creation in hospitals, schools and homes. The Communications and Transport Ministry (SCT, for its acronym in Spanish) official explained that the new air terminal will operate with clean energy, through solar energy to generate electricity; it will save 30 percent in water consumption. The waste water will be fully treated which will aid the sanitation of nine rivers and the construction of a biogas plant. She stressed that the new airport will be part of the Mexican heritage and an example in global sustainability issues. She stressed that in order to achieve international agreements and adapt the domestic regulatory framework in favor of the transportation sector, new reforms are being promoted including a new Civil Aviation Act, Airports Federal Law reforms and State Operational Safety Program. Mascott Pérez noted that the current airport is close to reaching its operational maximum limit, in addition that its extensions, modernizations and constructions made in recent decades are increasingly close to meet the passenger’s demands limit.
