University of Puebla develops robots that learn through imitation

Puebla, May 31 (Notimex).-Robotics Laboratory scientists at the Faculty of Electronics Sciences of the BUAP unveiled they are developing manipulator robot, capable to understand, learn and play moves as a child does when imitating routine mimics, but with greater precision and speed. In this regard, Fernando Reyes Cortés, academician of said faculty under the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) emphasized that the maximum house of studies of Puebla, which ranks as a pioneer in arms-manipulator robots, developed and produced from theory and national technology. The Faculty of Electronics Sciences (FCE, for its acronym in Spanish) under BUAP since 1998 has developed transmission robotic manipulators prototypes, with such features, and is now the first in the area of robotics that develops and produces in Mexico, with great marketing potential . By achieving this, BUAP ranks as a pioneer in the field of arms-robot manipulators, designed with national technology and theory, the institution highlights in a statement. According to the infrastructure, the robot can be programmed in active self-learning mode, in acquiring movements as when a child is taught certain actions. Secondly you can put it in automatic mode and thus the robot faithfully reproduces the entire taught sequence with the same precision and trajectory. It stresses that one of the significant difference is the architecture, as used in common arms industry which perform very specific tasks, requiring much effort to set new routines. The robotic platform of the Faculty of Electronics is characterized by an open architecture that allows easy automation of a wide range of processes. "The automatic routines have no time limit, because the robots can store and save a large number of movements to be executed when needed," said the document. It stresses that the project opens a wide spectrum of applications, because without basic knowledge in robotics, anyone can program the robot in a simple and natural way, which is new this prototype, which is in the process of obtaining a patent registration before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI, for its acronym in Spanish). BUAP said that this robot in particular is undergoing industrial upgrading through the Innovation Sector Fund call.
