Poland eyes more trade with Mexico

By Veronica Reynold Reyes Mexico (Notimex).- Mexico and Poland have great potential to strengthen their bilateral investments, due to each country's strategic location and trade accords. Both countries have shown interest in boosting investments, as currently they have not reached their full potential, said Polish ambassador in Mexico Beata Wojna (left). She added that there are already large Mexican companies operating in Poland, particularly in the plastic, agricultural and auto part sectors. Among those companies is cement maker Cemex, chemical and petrochemical firm Mexichem and Nemak, a company that specialises in producing high complex aluminum components for the automotive industry These companies, she added, operate successfully in Poland due to the country's location within the Eurozone and freedom to move goods, products and services. Poland's location gives Mexican companies easy access to countries such as France and Germany, Baltic and Scandinavian countries, as well as Eastern Europe. For their part, Polish firms have focused more on exporting goods such as cosmetics, car parts, hospital equipment, machinery and agricultural products, among others. This means there are currently more Mexican companies in Poland, and the few Polish investments in Mexico are more focused on the hospitality sector. But that has potential to change due to Mexico's strong car manufacturing industry, and Polish investments will surely follow German car companies arriving in Mexico, she said. Mexico's sweeping series of constitutional reforms in energy, telecoms, education and others has also made it a target for more investment, Wojna added. Mexico is also the gateway to the United States, and is even more attractive thanks to its NAFTA membership. Photos: Top: A street in Lodz, Poland.
